  1. Adult Supervision
    • One of the best ways to ensure that there is not a swimming accident is to have an adult on hand to watch over all the swimmers. This adult should be fully engaged in watching the swimmers and not partaking in other activities like cooking or drinking alcohol. And while water wings, life jackets, and pool noodles can help with kids feel confident in the pool, they should never replace the role of adult supervision.
  2. Learn to Swim
    • An excellent way to enjoy the swimming season is to know how to swim! Swimming lessons from a trained professional can help prevent all kinds of swimming accidents. Swimming instructors can show you what to do if you aren’t a strong swimmer but fall into the water. They can help a person feel more confident around water and teach different strokes to assist you in a variety of situations.
  3. Know your depth
    • If you are not a confident swimmer, do not go past an area where you cannot touch the bottom. If you are swimming in an area that doesn’t have any posted signage, make sure that you check the depth before jumping in. If you are jumping into an unknown area of water, there can be rocks that cannot be seen but can be deadly if you land on them.
